A few weeks ago, I published my fifth book. I’ve always wanted to write a murder mystery, but I never felt confident enough to know I could create a story with a good plot twist. I had a good friend of mine read the unedited version, and he said that he was intrigued. So, I decided to do it.
I had another conversation regarding my struggles with feeling good about the stories I was producing. I had mentioned that I was frustrated that I wasn’t selling more books. He responded with something to the effect that are you going to let other people’s opinions dictate doing something you love? My initial response was, yes, it does because I write so that others can enjoy a good story. However, as I thought about the point of what he was saying is that I should do what I love to do regardless of what other people may think.
I’m going to keep writing because I do love creating stories. It’s kinda like a woodworker or a carpenter who can create these beautiful pieces of furniture from wood, tools, and his mind. This is an aspect of God that He has granted humans. We have an innate desire to create, just like He has.
I think I’m getting better as a writer, so I hope that if you buy what I produce, I hope that you love it as much as I loved making it.
