A while back I decided to write a historical fiction novel based in my hometown during its inception in the early 1900s. It’s one of those “God moments” where He just gave me an idea! It took me one evening to write an outline for the novel, which again feels like Him telling me this is the next book to write. However, to write a good historical novel, you need to do some research.
I messaged with my hometown’s historical center and library, and I received some great resources from them. They were very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. Even giving me the name of a retired lawyer, who also wrote some books on the history of my hometown. I got to interview him a few months ago, and he was a wealth of knowledge. I also discovered that the University of Wyoming has all of the state’s newspapers on PDF’s! So, I’ve been browsing and perusing the local news from my hometown in 1906. Which leads me to the trip.
I decided that I would need to come back to my hometown because some of the books about its history were rare and could only be accessed in the library. Over the next few days, I’ll be doing further research on my hometown of Worland, looking into some of the people who shaped the town and hopefully finding enough background to write the novel in the next few months. It’s been fun!
Today, we are stopped in Orem, Utah. The trip here couldn’t have been better. It was warm going through the desert, but nowhere near what it could have been. It was rainy when we got to central Utah, but not too much. Tonight, I’m resting in a hotel and we’ll get a somewhat early start for Worland tomorrow. I plan to write something each day of this trip. Pray for safety for the entire stay!
